The EDQM has published the recommendations resulting from the International Symposium on Plasma Supply Management organised in co-operation with the European Commission on 29 and 30 January 2019.
In recent years, the global use of and demand for plasma for fractionation have grown and this trend is expected to continue. Increasing the availability of plasma for fractionation in Europe is seen as one of the main strategies for avoiding shortages of plasma-derived medicinal products that are needed in Europe to treat patients with life-threatening diseases.
These recommendations represent actions to be undertaken by different stakeholders in order to increase the availability of plasma for fractionation in Europe, based on the issues presented and discussed during the symposium.
