Making a significant difference – 2023 EDQM annual report published in new engaging digital format

The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) of the Council of Europe has published its 2023 annual report. For the first time, the report is completely digital, with a new, intuitive design and interactive features, facilitating your discovery journey and making it easier to access information. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the milestones, achievements and challenges of the past year, putting select data on the EDQM’s public health initiatives at your fingertips.

Throughout 2023, the EDQM contributed to ensuring access to and availability of safe and good quality medicines and health products for the benefit of all, upholding excellence, integrity and collaboration, and working tirelessly to adapt to the evolving needs of patients, health systems and regulatory frameworks.

Significant efforts were made to ensure the EDQM remains at the forefront of innovation and is ideally placed to carry out its increasingly global public health mission. By devising strategic frameworks to guide its action and investments in the years to come, the EDQM is ready to meet its commitment to long-term sustainability and positive impact in an evolving healthcare and regulatory environment. Its new vision and mission reflect this ambition.

Highlights of 2023 include new European Pharmacopoeia monographs for novel therapies and alternative analytical procedures, improved donor-selection criteria in the 21st edition of the Guide to the preparation, use and quality assurance of blood components, projects to tackle medicines shortages and the creation of new expert groups across all our policy areas.
