The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) is proud to highlight the remarkable progress made in 2023 on European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur.) texts on homoeopathic manufacturing methods, with the recent publication (January 2024) of three revised general monographs in Supplement 11.5 of the Ph. Eur.
The publication of these texts is an important achievement of the Homoeopathic Manufacturing Methods (HMM) Working Party, which has now completed its current work programme.
The general monograph on Methods of preparation of homoeopathic stocks and potentisation (2371) has been revised to add a new method (5.3) describing the Korsakovian method of manufacture of dilutions (single-flask potentisation method). In addition, the wording and the layout used throughout the monograph have been harmonised for greater clarity. The general monograph on Homeopathic preparations (1038) has also been revised to take into account the new Korsakovian method of manufacture.
The third of these general monographs, Homoeopathic pillules, coated (2786), has been revised to correct the quantities of sugar syrup and purified water described, taking into account the fact that the co-potentised mixture already contains a certain amount of sucrose.
The revised versions of these texts will become legally binding on 1 July 2024. The principal changes compared to the versions published in the 11th Edition of the Ph. Eur. are now also available in the EDQM Knowledge Database.
The Ph. Eur. would like to thank all the experts and other stakeholders who have invested considerable time and effort in this work. These achievements would not have been possible without them.
