Stakeholder consultation – New draft technical guide on FCM compliance
A new draft technical guide on documentation supporting compliance and safety of food contact materials and articles is now open for comment. The European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM) invites all parties concerned (national authorities, manufacturers, business operators or trade and producer associations) to provide their valuable input before the deadline of 30 April 2024.
To participate, please visit the EDQM’s dedicated “Food contact materials and articles web page”.
This technical guide aims to provide concrete tools for business operators acting along the supply chain to prepare the required documentation supporting the compliance and safety of food contact materials and articles. These requirements are set out in the Council of Europe Resolution CM/Res(2020)9 on the safety and quality of materials and articles for contact with food.
The draft technical guide – prepared by a working group of the European Committee for Food Contact Materials and Articles (CD-P-MCA) – now open for stakeholder consultation covers:
- how to prepare, update and check the supporting documentation and subsequent declaration of compliance;
- the integration of relevant European and national regulations and regulatory developments;
- a proposed checklist.
By enabling stakeholders to share their views on the draft text, the EDQM is seeking to create a set of tools adapted to this complex process and which takes users’ needs into account, ultimately helping to promote better health for all.
