The EDQM/Council of Europe publishes Newsletter Transplant, which gives data on organ, tissue and cell donation and transplantation at the European and international levels.

This work is co-ordinated by the Spanish National Transplant Organisation (ONT), which analyses the data collected through a worldwide network of health authorities and officially designated focal points.

According to the data in this year’s edition of the Newsletter, 41 000 patients received a transplant in 2018, while 48 000 new patients were registered on a waiting list for an organ, which is equivalent to nearly 6 new patients added to a waiting list every hour across Europe. This figure brings the total number of patients registered on waiting lists in Council of Europe member states in 2018 to over 150 000.
